The Roof

Saturday, December 8th, we tried again on the roof.
It turned out to be perfect weather for working on top.
Weston and Jessica, Greg and Shane and Caleb came to help.

This is Weston and Jessica's dog, Kaia.

And then Weldon was off to Germany on Monday.
Jessica and I have been working at the house while he is gone getting different odd jobs wrapped up.

A Weekend's Progress

We had the great expectations of getting started on our roof. Greg and Caleb came out to help us. But with 24-27mph winds it was pretty much impossible. So...we got busy on other projects.
We (they) set the front door...

And the back door...

Got the brick molding/skirt board up...

Keith and Denise came and tore out the existing stairs, becuase they weren't going to work for what we are wanting. I didn't get any pictures of that (of course).
It felt good to get done what we did.
Sunday Weston and Jessica came to help with tarp papering the roof. The picture above shows the back done.

And we got most of our driveway in. We hope to do a circle drive around to the front porch.

Septic Tank and Drain Field

It felt like it took forever to do our septic system. But we got it done and passed inspection!
We borrowed U. Marty's excavator to dig the hole for the tank and also the trenches for the drain field. Monday, November 20th we dug the hole.

Tuesday the tank was set and all the material for the drain field was delivered.
We worked on the trenches Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Had to replace a hydraulic hose on the excavator Friday. By Monday we were filling the trenches with pipe and gravel. Tuesday was sand. Wednesday was sand. Thursday we had the metal delivered for the roof. And had the great intentions of grading out the dirt on the drain feild, but the skid steer failed to cooperate.
And then on Friday we did finally get the inspection...it passed! And then Saturday, we got the skid steer running and finished up the final grading.

So what you are looking at is 980 feet of leech lines!
I did fail to take pictures of the work in progress. It's kind of hard toting around a camara and a shovel at the same time. Especially when you're using the shovel. :)

Windows

Here we are with windows in!
Weldon and I put in all the downstairs ones on Saturday.

Weston and Jessica came over Sunday afternoon and helped put the upstairs windows in!

Fascia

Well, I know it's been a while. But there isn't just a whole lot happening these days.
Saturday a week ago David came out to help put the fascia.
It looks REALLY good!
That's about all that we have been working on lately.
The time change has really thrown us for a loop.
We usually had about two hours of daylight after Weldon got off work. It's pretty much dark by the time we get to the house now. We have been working with lights, but there are just some things you need to do in daylight.
We have the windows ordered.
We are supposed to decide on the metal roof this week so Greg can put the order in for that.
Slowly, but surely! :)

Sheeting the Roof Part 2

The following weekend was very cold, but it didn't stop us from working.
Marcus and Heather, Keith and Denise, and Sam came to help sheet the roof.
We were VERY pleased with the how much we were able to accomplish.

This is what it looked like Saturday evening after a full day.
On Monday Keith and Denise, Weston and Jessica, Logan, and Grandpa and Grandma came to help with finishing up the front and porch gable.

Weldon was the official ground/cut man.

It was a very nice evening. And the sunset was so pretty. You will have to excuse the power pole. ;)

The Place We'll Call Home

The place that we bought in Arcadia was an abandoned home site. There were two mobile homes that had been partially stripped. And a cinder ...
