The Place We'll Call Home

The place that we bought in Arcadia was an abandoned home site. There were two mobile homes that had been partially stripped. And a cinder block garage/shop that was full of junk. Surrounding the mobile homes and shop were piles of trash and more junk. And then towards the back of the property was a dump site. We knew that if we bought the property it would need a lot of work!

We hauled off countless trailer loads of metal and aluminum to be recycled and then took like five dump trailer loads of just household trash to the dump.

After we got the majority of the trash picked up we dug a burn pit to start burning everything we could.

It's not completely done, but we've made a huge dent. And it doesn't feel as daunting of a task now. Mostly what is left we will just work on here and there along with clearing out underbrush, cedars and briars. We know that when we move dirt to do the final grade and fill in the driveway we will probably dig up more trash. It has been absolutely unreal-the amount of trash that we have picked up.

We thought we might would save the garage/shop and turn it into a shed. Our thought was to paint it the same color as the house and put a new roof on it. But once constructed started on the house we decided it needed to go.
I saved the rails and hardware from the sliding barn door and plan to use it in the house.

Uncle Marty came over one day with his skid steer, stripped the metal off the mobile homes, broke them down and burned them for us. It was a huge help. This is the after view of where the trailers were.

In December Caden came over to help us clear the house site. And then Uncle Darrell cut the pad for us.

So, that's kind of the process of what it took to get the property ready for construction. Until next time...
